Nothing is more beautiful and alien than a close up view of a plant. Plants are full of spots and hairs, oddly shaped caverns, and unexpected streaks of color. The Botanical Series depicts the close-up world of plants, exploring their strange wonders and geometries.
Milk Thistle, oil on canvas, 18"x24" $1,000
"I am refreshed by studying nature. The cycle of life and death, perhaps surprisingly, sparks optimism and peace in me. Botanical studies have always been a part of my regular art practice and have been a continual source of inspiration."
Speckled Orchid, oil on canvas 28"x28" $1,500
Even a humble daisy, with its white petals symmetrically arranged around its yellow center, holds mystery. Up close, its center is composed of miniature flowers which spiral outward from fresh buds in the center, to fading flowers, transforming into seeds, on the outer edges. The color and textures range from ochre and brown on the tattered edges, to orange powdery pollen midway, and smooth greenish-yellow buds in the center. There is a whole cycle of life visible in what we think of as the simplest of flowers.
Dreaming Chrysanthemum, oil on canvas, 18"x24" $1,000
